On talent and D-bags

Journal Entry: Sat May 3, 2008, 11:34 PM
So you know, when I was a lot younger I used to think that anyone with talent was automatically awesome. But now that I'm older and wiser, I've realized something important:

Just because someone is good at something does NOT mean they are an awesome person.

Fortunately, I've also learned that the opposite is just as true:

Just because someone is NOT good at ANYTHING doesn't mean they AREN'T an awesome person.

I know these two facts seem obvious, but I think it's important to remember stuff like this. You know, I may not be the best artist here on DA, but at least I endeavor to not be a complete and utter jackhole. I think it would be nice if we could all remember these kinds of things, all the time. Sometimes I will come upon someone's DA gallery, and they'll have some pretty cool work. Pretty cool, maybe not the best EVER, but you know. Neat. And then I'll read their user info or journal entry or whatever, and I won't ever look at their page again because they're so utterly full of them self I can't even stand it. On the other hand, sometimes I'll come across a page that's kind of mediocre, but the artist seems so friendly and downright NICE that I won't be able to stop myself from favoriting some of their work just because I like them so much.

And anyway, there's still one more thing that's true:

Just because someone is good at something does not mean that they are CERTAIN to not be an awesome person.

There are lots of amazing artists on here who also seem to be totally awesome people, and those are the people who I would buy art from. Seriously, look at all of the really hugely amazing artists on here, and like 99.9 percent of them seem to be pretty awesome people. Some of them are even nice enough to make tutorials, to help other less awesome artists get better. Now that's classy.

Stuff and stuff

I'm just posting this so I'm not talking about mudkips anymore, really.

I like to read a little blurb when I look at someone's page, so I put one up on mine in the form of a journal entry.

Unfortunatly, I'm right now discovering that I really haven't got much to talk about....

except maybe the fact that I'm really happy with the latest deviation I posted. I really think it represents a big step forward for me with my digital work: it's the first time I've done something on the computer that I felt matched the style I use when I paint, and also added something to it.

Anyway.

Man, april fools day is so annoying. On the other hand, I had totally forgotten it WAS april fools day. So I guess there are some good aspects to the prank.

Oh 4chan....you little devils you.

So I haven't been on DA for a week or so, and this morning I log in only to find that instead of the 90 or so I was expecting I have OVER A THOUSAND community messages!

Apparently in my absence my painting of Hraesvelg was featured as a daily deviation! How exciting.

Anyway, since there were some print requests, I'm putting it up for sale.

I'd just like to remind people that ALL of my work is ALWAYS for sale in print form, you just have to e-mail me and ask about it. Although obviously that is not as convenient as buying it on DA.

Although I wound up not selling any at Anime Boston, I'm still thinking of doing some fanart.

Has anyone ever heard of a manga called Biomega? If not, I highly recomend it. It has a talking bear with a hook. That's right, a HOOK. like a pirate, only he's a bear. That talks. And rides a motorcycle.

So I'm thinking that I'll probably do some art for the anime boston art show, because last time I put stuff there, I made like sixty bucks, which is sixty more than I made at arisia. Say what you want about anime con art shows, at least the artists can make some cash.

Last time I was there I only sold fanart, so now there is an important question...

WHO should I do fanart of? Sesshoumaru and Chrono I already have, and I sold both of them last time, so why not bring prints of them again? But who else should I do some art of? I've been kind of into Naruto lately (shut up!) so I kind of want to try Sasuke, and there's an old sketch for a fairly cool image of Raito sitting on my other computer, but who else should I fanart? Maybe that's enough?

decisions decisions....

If you are looking at my work and thinking "Oh man, how awesome!" (really? you think so? Aww....*blushes*) you can drop me an e-mail and we can talk about you getting a print of any piece you like. I'm also always happy to take commissions and such, because seriously, I need some cash.

A print would probably be around 20 bucks...not expensive, you know?

A commission would be more expensive because it would be a real painting.
